About the work

Egypt, b. 1983

Asmaa Samy, born on May 25, 1983, is an Egyptian painter renowned for her revival of the nineteenth-century Impressionist style. She employs delicate washes of various hues to evoke a sense of visual freedom, often depicting women intertwined with musical elements. Samy graduated from Helwan University's Faculty of Fine Arts in 2005.

Her work has been featured in several solo exhibitions at Cairo's Picasso Art Gallery, including "That Smell" (December 22, 2019 – January 16, 2020), "Metamorphosis" (February 6–21, 2022), and "Inner Voice" (December 3–17, 2023). Additionally, she participated in the group exhibition "Celebrating Women in Egyptian Art" at the same gallery in 2020.

Samy's paintings are characterized by their harmonious compositions, likened to musical scores, and her adept use of watercolors to create a dialogue between the medium and the viewer. Her approach combines the portrayal of women with musical themes, inviting audiences into a world of visual and auditory harmony.
