About the work

A woman seen in profile emerges from a luminous golden background, her flowing hair and face adorned with vibrant floral patterns in pink and teal, crowned with a delicate wreath of branches. Radiant white light beams emanate from above her head while a dark, textured cityscape anchors the composition below, creating a striking contrast between earth and transcendence.

Mixed media

Works combining two or more materials — paint, collage, found objects, text, sand — in a single piece. The approach lets artists layer meaning and material, and is widely used in modern and contemporary MENA art.

Expressionism

Art that prioritizes emotion and inner experience over realistic depiction, using distortion, bold color, and energetic mark-making. In the region it gave modern artists a language for memory, displacement, and identity.
