Egypt, b. 1968

Ashraf Zaki, born on December 29, 1960, in Cairo, Egypt, is a distinguished actor, theater director, and influential figure in the Egyptian arts community. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce from Cairo University in 1983, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Acting and Directing from the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts, where he graduated with honors. Zaki furthered his academic pursuits by obtaining a Master's degree with a thesis titled "The Role of the Director in Establishing the Experimental Movement in Egyptian Theater" and a Ph.D. in Theater Directing from the Academy of Arts in 2002, focusing on "Contemporary Directorial Vision of Texts Inspired by Heritage."

Throughout his career, Zaki has showcased his versatility across television, cinema, and theater. His notable television roles include performances in "Khalti Safiya wa al-Deir," "Gomhoreyat Zefta," and "Umm Kulthum." In cinema, he appeared in films such as "Ayal Habiba," "Al-Watar," and "Al-Ragol Al-Ghameed Bsalamtuh." As a theater director, his works include "Dhahk wa La'b wa Mazyka," "A'ilat al-Fak al-Muftaris," and "Khayoon Rabih al-Malyoon."

Beyond his artistic endeavors, Zaki has held several significant administrative positions. He has served multiple terms as the President of the Actors' Syndicate, demonstrating his commitment to the welfare of his peers. In 2018, he was appointed Vice President of the Academy of Arts, and by 2024, he ascended to the role of President of the Academy. His contributions to the arts have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the State Incentive Award in Theater Directing in 2001 and the State Award for Excellence in Arts in 2009. In 2023, he was honored with the State Appreciation Award in Arts, underscoring his enduring impact on Egyptian culture.
