Arnaldo Pomodoro

France, b. 1926

Arnaldo Pomodoro is an acclaimed Italian sculptor, born in 1926 in Morciano di Romagna, Italy. Renowned for his monumental bronze sculptures, Pomodoro is particularly celebrated for his iconic "Sphere Within Sphere" (Sfera con Sfera) series, which features intricately fractured and layered globes. His work is characterized by a dynamic interplay between geometric perfection and internal complexity, often exploring themes of transformation and the tension between order and chaos. Pomodoro’s practice extends to jewelry, stage design, and reliefs, but his large-scale public sculptures remain his most influential contributions to contemporary art.

Pomodoro’s sculptures have been exhibited in major institutions worldwide, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice. His works are also prominently displayed in public spaces, such as the Vatican Museums and the United Nations Headquarters in New York. At auction, Pomodoro’s pieces have achieved significant results at leading houses like Christie’s and Sotheby’s, with his bronze sculptures regularly commanding six-figure sums, underscoring his enduring market appeal and institutional recognition.
