Andrej Roiter

United States, b. 1960

Andrej Roiter (b. 1960, Moscow, Russia) is a contemporary artist recognized for his multidisciplinary practice encompassing painting, drawing, photography, and installation. Roiter’s work often explores themes of memory, displacement, and the transient nature of home, employing a poetic visual language that merges elements of abstraction and figuration. Since the late 1980s, Roiter has developed a distinctive style characterized by subtle color palettes and a focus on everyday objects, imbuing them with narrative and emotional resonance.

Roiter’s art has been exhibited internationally in prominent institutions, including solo and group exhibitions at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, and the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. His works are held in the collections of these and other major museums, reflecting his significant presence in both Russian and global contemporary art scenes. Roiter relocated to the Netherlands in the early 1990s and has since maintained an active exhibition schedule across Europe and the United States.

At auction, Andrej Roiter’s works have appeared at major houses such as Sotheby’s and Phillips, with paintings and works on paper achieving notable results, particularly in contemporary art sales featuring Russian and international artists. Roiter continues to live and work between New York and Amsterdam, contributing to the dialogue between Eastern and Western artistic traditions.
