Iraq

Amer al-Obaidi, born in 1943 in Al Najaf, Iraq, is a distinguished painter, sculptor, and illustrator renowned for his works that emphasize Iraqi folklore and tradition. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from Baghdad University in 1969. Al-Obaidi's artistic journey began in his youth, inspired by the natural patterns in the cracked earth of his surroundings, leading him to create his first sculpture at the age of 10 or 11. Encouraged by his family, he pursued a career in the arts, developing a style deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Iraq.

Throughout his career, al-Obaidi has participated in numerous exhibitions, both in Iraq and internationally, showcasing his commitment to preserving and promoting Iraqi cultural narratives through his art. His works are characterized by a profound connection to the traditions and folklore of his homeland, reflecting the rich tapestry of Iraqi history and society. In recent years, al-Obaidi has relocated to the United States, where he continues to create and exhibit his art, contributing to the global appreciation of Iraqi artistic heritage.
