About the work

Layered organic forms float across a muted grey ground, each shape densely textured with fragmented marks in deep purples, blues, and flashes of golden yellow. The composition feels geological and introspective, as if mapping unseen territories through expressive, painterly energy.

Amal Nasr, born in Alexandria in 1965, is a distinguished Egyptian painter, researcher, and art critic. She graduated top of her class from Alexandria University's Faculty of Fine Arts in 1988, specializing in painting. Nasr furthered her academic pursuits with a master's degree in photography in 1993 and a doctorate in 2000, focusing on the contemporary aesthetics of composition in oriental arts. Nasr's artistic oeuvre is characterized by a fusion of ancient artistic influences with contemporary expression, spanning abstract, figurative, expressionist, and impressionist styles. Her work pulsates with an enigmatic aura, where every element, from humans to animals and inanimate objects, contributes to a cohesive narrative. She has held over seventeen solo exhibitions in Egypt and participated in numerous international exhibitions in countries such as the U.K., Italy, France, China, Jordan, and Kuwait. Notably, her exhibition "Another Horizon" at Safar Khan Gallery in 2022 marked a shift towards expressionism, offering an immersive experience with subtle narratives interlinking her paintings.
