Qatar

Amal Al Aathem is a prominent Qatari artist known for her evocative mixed media paintings that delve into social and cultural issues, particularly those affecting women in the Middle East. Her work is characterized by a sensitive interplay of presence and absence, light and shadow, and explicit and suggested elements, creating a compelling narrative that resonates with viewers. Al Aathem's artistic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from Qatar University in 1995, and she has since become a significant figure in Qatar's contemporary art scene.

Throughout her career, Al Aathem has participated in numerous exhibitions worldwide. Notable solo exhibitions include "Gravity" at Anima Gallery in Doha (2018), "Moon Dialog" in Istanbul (2014), and "Bridge to the Moon" at Katara in Doha (2013). Her group exhibitions span various international venues, such as the "Autumn Salon" in Paris (2010 and 2011), the "Mediterranean People Festival" in Italy (2005), and the "Expo Qatar" exhibition in Japan (2004). In recognition of her contributions to the arts, she has received several awards, including the 2012 Award of Sheikha Dr. Suad Al-Sabah to enrich the fine movement in the GCC and the 2010 Award of Appreciation during Doha Capital of Culture.

Beyond her artistic practice, Al Aathem serves as a Consultant of Fine Arts at the Ministry of Culture and Sports in Doha and is the Founder and Chairman of the 7th Heaven Art Center. Her dedication to exploring and highlighting women's experiences through art has established her as a source of inspiration for emerging artists in Qatar and the broader Middle Eastern art community.
