Ali Maher

Jordan, b. 1958–2013

Ali Maher (1958–2013) was a prominent Jordanian artist known for his contributions to contemporary art in the Middle East. Born in Amman, Maher developed a distinctive style that blended elements of abstraction with figurative motifs, often reflecting on themes of identity, heritage, and the urban landscape of his homeland. His work spanned various mediums, including painting, drawing, and mixed media, and was characterized by a vibrant palette and dynamic compositions.

Maher’s art was widely exhibited in reputable institutions across the Arab world and internationally. He participated in significant group and solo exhibitions at venues such as the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts and Darat al Funun in Amman, both of which hold his works in their permanent collections. His exhibitions contributed to the visibility of Jordanian contemporary art on the global stage, and he was recognized as a leading figure in the region’s cultural scene.

In addition to his institutional presence, Ali Maher’s works have appeared at major auction houses, including Christie’s Dubai, where his paintings have attracted attention from collectors and achieved notable results.
