Ali Hussein

Syria, b. 1957

Ali Hussein (علي حسين), born in 1957 in Syria, is a contemporary Syrian artist whose work spans painting and sculpture. His artistic practice is characterized by a deep engagement with the cultural and social landscape of Syria, often reflecting themes of heritage and identity through expressive forms and vibrant color palettes. Hussein’s style is noted for its synthesis of traditional motifs with modernist abstraction, resulting in compositions that resonate with both historical depth and contemporary relevance.

Hussein has exhibited his work in several prominent institutions across the Middle East, including solo and group exhibitions at the Damascus National Museum and the Arab Cultural Center. His participation in regional biennials and art fairs has further established his reputation within the Syrian and broader Arab art scenes. While his works have appeared in select auctions, there is no verified record of sales at major international auction houses such as Christie’s, Sotheby’s, or Bonhams as of the latest available data. Nevertheless, Ali Hussein remains an influential figure in Syrian contemporary art, recognized for his contributions to the visual arts and his role in fostering cultural dialogue through his creative practice.
