Oman

Ali bin Hilal al-Ma'mari is an Omani artist whose work intricately weaves elements of Omani heritage into contemporary art forms. His artistic journey began in his early education, where he excelled in art classes and participated in various competitions. Pursuing his passion, he specialized in Fine Arts at the Teachers' College in Muscat, further honing his skills through affiliations with the Omani Society for Fine Arts and the Youth Studio.

Al-Ma'mari's oeuvre is characterized by a fusion of realism and abstraction, often depicting Omani landscapes, traditional architecture, and cultural motifs. His early works focused on realistic portrayals of Omani heritage, including natural scenery and historic alleyways. Over time, he transitioned to abstract interpretations, experimenting with various materials such as fabrics, sand, and paper to add texture and depth. Notably, he has employed gesso and palette knives to create abstract representations of Omani life, emphasizing the intricate patterns found in traditional attire.

Throughout his career, Al-Ma'mari has showcased his art in numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally. He participated in the Sharjah Biennial in 1999 and the Cairo Biennial in 2003. His works have been featured in exhibitions across Saudi Arabia, Algeria, and Tunisia. In 2017, he held a solo exhibition titled "Aqasees" at Bait Al Zubair in Muscat, drawing inspiration from Omani folklore. In 2023, he presented his fourth solo exhibition, "Oman Tarathiyat 1," at the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Center, aiming to raise awareness about early cancer detection.
