Ali Al Khalid

Syria, b. 1944

Ali Al Khalid, born in 1944 in Palmyra, Syria, is a distinguished artist specializing in printmaking and lithography. He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University in 1970 and pursued further studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, completing his education in 1980. In 1996, he continued his research in lithography using metal plates in Barcelona, Spain.

Throughout his career, Al Khalid has held significant academic positions, including serving as the head of the Printmaking Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus for two years. He has also been invited to teach lithography at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona in 1997. His works are part of collections in institutions such as the Damascus Museum, the Museum of Graphic Art in Cairo, and various galleries in Beirut, Austria, France, and Cuba.

Al Khalid's artistic style is characterized by abstract compositions that often draw inspiration from his Syrian heritage, incorporating elements from Palmyrene architecture and traditional motifs. His notable exhibitions include the "Soft Beads" series, showcased at the Arab Riwaq Gallery in Damascus in 2016, where he utilized digital techniques to transform simple materials into intricate visual narratives. His contributions to the art world have been recognized with several awards, including the first prize at the UNESCO exhibition "Women in the Eyes of Artists" in 2003.
