Egypt, b. 1987

Ahmed Saber, born in Sohag, Egypt, in 1987, is a contemporary artist renowned for his distinctive blend of graphic design precision and surrealist expression infused with Egyptian cultural motifs. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from South Valley University in 2009 and later pursued a Master's degree in 2016, focusing on "Metaphysics in Contemporary Egyptian Painting." Saber further advanced his academic credentials by obtaining a Doctorate in Conceptual Realism in contemporary Egyptian painting.

Saber's artistic journey is marked by a deep engagement with both local and international art scenes. He has participated in numerous competitions, securing accolades such as the painting award from the Arts Lovers Society in Cairo and a similar honor at the 2017 Youth Salon (Salon El Shabab). His work has been showcased in several solo exhibitions, including "Teatro" at Safarkhan Gallery in Zamalek in 2019 and "Maqam" in November 2021. In October 2024, he presented "Solomon’s Steed," an exhibition that delved into Egypt's rich cultural heritage through a surrealist lens.

Saber's oeuvre is characterized by a meticulous attention to detail and a fascination with symbols drawn from Egyptian history, including Islamic, folkloric, and Pharaonic elements. His paintings often feature natural motifs such as fish, pomegranates, and grapes, which hold deep spiritual significance in Egyptian culture. By juxtaposing realistic elements within surrealist frameworks, Saber explores intellectual and psychological themes, creating a contemporary surrealism that reflects his heritage and artistic influences. His admiration for contemporary surrealists like Laurie Lipton and Mark Ryden is evident in his work, yet he maintains a unique voice that bridges Egypt's past and present.
