Ahmad Asqalani

Egypt, b. 1978

Ahmad Asqalani (أحمد عسقلاني), born in 1978 in Egypt, is a contemporary sculptor recognized for his distinctive approach to form and material. Working primarily in wood and bronze, Asqalani’s sculptures often explore themes of humanity, heritage, and the interplay between abstraction and figuration. His works are characterized by their organic shapes and a tactile engagement with natural materials, reflecting both Egyptian artistic traditions and a modern sensibility.

Asqalani has exhibited widely in Egypt and internationally. Notably, his sculptures have been featured at the Cairo Opera House and the Palace of Arts in Cairo, as well as in group exhibitions at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. His participation in the Alexandria Biennale and the Aswan International Sculpture Symposium further underscores his standing in the regional art scene. Asqalani’s works have also appeared at major auction houses; Sotheby’s and Christie’s have included his pieces in contemporary Middle Eastern art sales, marking significant milestones in his market presence.

Throughout his career, Ahmad Asqalani has contributed to the revitalization of Egyptian sculpture, blending traditional motifs with contemporary aesthetics.
