Adnan Yahya

Jordan, b. 1960–2020

Adnan Yahya (عدنان يحيى), born in Amman, Jordan in 1960 and passing in 2020, was a prominent contemporary artist known for his evocative paintings and mixed-media works. Yahya’s artistic practice was characterized by a distinctive surrealist style, often exploring themes of human struggle, identity, and the complexities of Middle Eastern life. His works frequently incorporated symbolic figures and dreamlike landscapes, rendered with meticulous detail and a rich, earthy palette.

Yahya’s art has been exhibited in several notable institutions across the Middle East and internationally. He participated in group and solo exhibitions at venues such as the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts and the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, reflecting his standing within both regional and global art circles. His works have also appeared in major auctions, including sales at Christie’s Dubai, where his paintings have attracted attention from collectors and contributed to the growing recognition of contemporary Jordanian art on the international stage.

Throughout his career, Adnan Yahya remained deeply connected to his Jordanian heritage, drawing inspiration from local narratives and cultural motifs. His legacy endures through his impactful visual language and his role in shaping the contemporary art scene in Jordan and the broader Arab world.
