Adly Rizkallah

Egypt, b. 1939–2010

Adly Rizkallah (عدلي رزق الله, sometimes transliterated as Adli Rizqallah or Adly Rizqalla) was an influential Egyptian painter and graphic artist, born in 1939 and passing in 2010. Renowned for his vibrant use of color and distinctive visual language, Rizkallah’s work often drew inspiration from Egyptian folk traditions, nature, and the country’s rich visual heritage. His practice spanned painting, illustration, and graphic design, with a particular emphasis on watercolors and mixed media. Rizkallah’s style is characterized by rhythmic compositions, playful motifs, and a lyrical abstraction that bridges modernist sensibilities with local cultural references.

Rizkallah’s art was widely exhibited in Egypt and internationally, with notable institutional exhibitions including solo and group shows at the Cairo Opera House, the Egyptian Museum of Modern Art, and the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. His works are held in several public and private collections, reflecting his significant contribution to Egyptian modern art. On the secondary market, Rizkallah’s paintings have appeared at major auction houses such as Sotheby’s and Christie’s, where they have attracted collectors interested in modern Arab art. His legacy endures as a key figure in the development of contemporary Egyptian visual culture.
