Abdel Hadi El-Gazzar (عبد الهادي الجزار, also transliterated as Abdel Hady El Gazzar) was a prominent Egyptian painter born in 1925 and active until his untimely death in 1966. A leading figure in the Egyptian modern art movement, El-Gazzar was known for his deeply symbolic and surrealist approach, blending elements of folklore, social commentary, and mystical imagery. His works often explored the intersection of tradition and modernity in postcolonial Egypt, utilizing mediums such as oil on canvas, watercolor, and drawing. El-Gazzar was associated with the Contemporary Art Group (جماعة الفن المعاصر), which played a significant role in shaping mid-20th-century Egyptian art.

El-Gazzar’s art has been featured in major institutional exhibitions, including retrospectives at the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha and the Egyptian Museum of Modern Art in Cairo. His works are held in the collections of these institutions, as well as in the Barjeel Art Foundation. At auction, El-Gazzar has achieved notable results at leading houses such as Sotheby’s and Christie’s, with paintings like "The High Dam" and "The Fortune Teller" commanding significant attention and strong prices, reflecting his enduring influence and the rarity of his works on the market. El-Gazzar’s legacy endures as a touchstone for Egyptian modernism, celebrated for his unique visual language and profound cultural resonance.
