Abd Al-Abdi

Palestine, b. 1942

Abd Al-Abdi (عبد العبدى), born in Haifa, Palestine in 1942, is a prominent Palestinian artist known for his evocative paintings, sculptures, and graphic works that chronicle the Palestinian experience and collective memory. After being displaced with his family during the Nakba, Al-Abdi pursued formal art education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Alexandria, Egypt, graduating in 1972. His artistic practice spans painting, sculpture, and printmaking, often characterized by expressive figuration and a deep engagement with themes of exile, resistance, and identity.

Al-Abdi’s works have been exhibited in major institutions across the Arab world and internationally, including the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts. He is regarded as a foundational figure in modern Palestinian art, with his pieces held in significant public and private collections. Al-Abdi’s art has also appeared at reputable auction houses such as Christie’s, where his works have attracted attention for their historical resonance and technical mastery. Throughout his career, Abd Al-Abdi has remained committed to documenting the Palestinian narrative, making him a central figure in the region’s cultural and artistic heritage.
