Wael Darwish

Wael Darwish is a contemporary Egyptian artist known for his dynamic engagement with painting, mixed media, and installation art. Born in Cairo in 1975, Darwish graduated from the Faculty of Art Education at Helwan University, where he later completed his master's degree. His work often explores themes of identity, urban life, and socio-political narratives, employing expressive brushwork and layered compositions that reflect the complexities of modern Egyptian society.
Darwish has exhibited widely in Egypt and internationally, with notable institutional exhibitions at the Cairo Opera House, the Palace of Arts, and the Egyptian Academy in Rome. His participation in the 11th International Cairo Biennale and the Alexandria Biennale further established his reputation within the regional art scene. In addition to institutional shows, Darwish’s works have appeared at reputable auction houses, including Sotheby’s and Christie’s, where his paintings have attracted the attention of collectors interested in contemporary Middle Eastern art.
Throughout his career, Wael Darwish has contributed significantly to the evolving landscape of Egyptian contemporary art, both as an artist and as a curator.
