Talal Sami

Talal Sami Qasim, born in Baghdad in 1950, is an Iraqi artist whose multifaceted career spans graphic design, sculpture, and painting. Between 1974 and 1986, he contributed to the architectural field with the Iraqi Consulting Office, serving as a graphic designer, draughtsman, and modelist. His artistic journey commenced with participation in the October First Exhibition in 1974, commemorating the Egyptian army's crossing of the Suez Canal during the 1973 war. Subsequently, he showcased his works in the annual April exhibitions organized by the National Museum of Modern Art in Baghdad.

In the late 1970s, Qasim expanded his professional experience by working in Kuwait with consultant Sami Al-Badr. During the 1980s, he supervised traditional carpentry and decoration projects, notably focusing on "Baghdadi shanachil" and traditional doors. His artistic repertoire includes participation in primitive art exhibitions in London and Baghdad, where he exhibited numerous sculptures and paintings. Additionally, he contributed to exhibitions celebrating Sculpture Art Day and various art shows organized by the Iraqi Military Forces in Baghdad.

Qasim's work is characterized by a deep engagement with Iraq's architectural heritage and traditional motifs, reflecting a commitment to preserving and interpreting cultural identity through art. His contributions to both the architectural and artistic landscapes underscore a dedication to blending functional design with aesthetic expression.
