Serge Poliakoff (1900–1969) was a Russian-born painter who became a prominent figure in the School of Paris and is celebrated for his contributions to abstract art. Born in Moscow, Poliakoff left Russia in 1918, eventually settling in Paris in 1923, where he immersed himself in the city’s vibrant artistic milieu. Initially trained as a musician, he gradually shifted his focus to painting, developing a distinctive style characterized by interlocking, irregular color fields and a nuanced exploration of form and space.
