Sarah Al Darham

Sarah Al Darham is a Qatari filmmaker and visual artist known for her compelling storytelling and dedication to preserving cultural narratives. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication from Northwestern University in Qatar in 2014, where she demonstrated exceptional academic performance and a strong commitment to the local community. During her time at the university, she held leadership roles in the Student Union and the Cultural Club, and co-founded "Ta2heel," a non-profit summer program aimed at preparing high school students for university life.

Al Darham's filmmaking focuses on capturing the essence of Qatari culture and addressing social issues. Her documentary "Um Rashid" offers an intimate portrayal of a day in the life of a Bedouin woman, highlighting the nuances of regional differences between Emiratis and Qataris. In 2012, her short film "Ghazal – The Story of Rashid and Jawaher" was selected to represent Qatar at the prestigious Gulf Film Festival in Dubai. Notably, her works are primarily in Arabic, underscoring her commitment to honoring and preserving the language.

After completing her undergraduate studies, Al Darham pursued further education in media and cultural studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. Her dedication to storytelling and cultural preservation continues to inspire and contribute significantly to the Qatari art scene.
