Nizar Turki

Nizar Yahya, born in Baghdad in 1963, is an Iraqi contemporary artist known for his evocative paintings and graphic works. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts at the University of Baghdad in 1986. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Yahya served as a map illustrator for the Iraqi army. In 2003, he relocated to Amman, Jordan, and subsequently moved to the United States, where he currently resides.

Yahya's artistic practice encompasses painting and graphic arts, often delving into themes of childhood, Sufism, and Greek art. His works are characterized by a blend of traditional motifs and contemporary techniques, reflecting a deep engagement with cultural and historical narratives. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both locally and internationally. Notable exhibitions include his solo graphic art show at Al-Riwaq Gallery in Baghdad in 1994, participation in the Fredrikstad Biennale in Norway in 1985 and 2000, and a solo exhibition titled "Yusuf" at Dar Al Funoon in Bahrain in 2011. His works have been showcased in venues such as the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts and the French Cultural Center in Amman.

Yahya's art has been featured in various publications and exhibitions, highlighting his contributions to contemporary Iraqi art. His exploration of themes like childhood memories and Sufi philosophy has garnered attention for its depth and introspection.
