Mohamed Tarek Zaki

Mohamed Tarek Zaki is an Egyptian visual artist known for his mixed-media works that intertwine historical and contemporary symbols to explore themes of identity and cultural heritage. His piece "Out of the Tale," showcased at the 35th Youth Salon from December 11, 2024, to January 11, 2025, exemplifies this approach. The work comprises two components: one measuring 275 x 300 cm and the other 210 x 75 x 40 cm, utilizing various materials. It features elements such as an ancient Egyptian goddess symbolizing feminine power and fertility, juxtaposed with a modern figure reflecting popular culture, creating a visual dialogue between past and present. A wooden boat atop the composition symbolizes transition, while dominant golden hues evoke a sense of sanctity and timelessness. Scattered inscriptions add layers of narrative, suggesting a timeless story or prayer. This amalgamation of diverse elements invites viewers to contemplate human identity and cultural continuity.

Born in 1991, Zaki pursued advanced studies in sculpture and obtained a diploma in design and graphics from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. He has participated in multiple editions of the Youth Salon and various exhibitions both domestically and internationally, earning numerous awards. His contributions include involvement in the second edition of the Scrap Metal Sculpture Symposium (2015-2016) and receiving accolades in the Creativity Festival over consecutive years. Zaki has also served as a visual arts trainer for Benha University's team from 2012 to 2016 and worked as an art instructor from 2014 to 2018.
