Ghazi Al Delaimi

Ghazi Al Delaimi is an Iraqi artist renowned for his innovative approach to Arabic calligraphy. Under the tutelage of the esteemed calligrapher Hashim Al-Khattat, Al Delaimi mastered traditional scripts such as Kufic, Thuluth, Naskh, Maghribi, Ta'liq, and Diwani. He skillfully integrates these scripts into his artwork, transforming them into architectural forms that establish intricate relationships with vibrant color fields reminiscent of natural landscapes. This fusion of calligraphy and abstract art has garnered international recognition.
Since relocating to Germany in 1970, Al Delaimi has continued to develop his distinctive style, which has been lauded for creating a compelling unity between Eastern and European artistic elements. His works have been featured in various exhibitions, including the 1995 printing of four of his pieces enhanced with precious gold tones, highlighting the depth and imaginative quality of his calligraphic lines. Al Delaimi's contributions have significantly influenced the evolution of contemporary Arabic calligraphy, positioning him as a pivotal figure in the art form's modern landscape.
