Fathi Ahmad

Fathi Ahmed Mahmoud Ahmed, known professionally as Fathi Ahmed, was an Egyptian artist born on September 7, 1939, in Qena, Egypt. He specialized in graphic arts and printmaking, earning a Bachelor of Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1964, a Master's degree in 1980, and a PhD in Art Philosophy in 1988. Ahmed served as the head of the Graphic Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Minia University, and was the Deputy Dean for Student and Education Affairs. He also contributed as the editorial secretary for the Culture magazine under the General Authority of Arts.

Throughout his career, Ahmed held 27 solo exhibitions in Cairo, Germany, and Paris, including a notable show at Extra Gallery in Zamalek in 1998. He participated in numerous collective exhibitions and competitions from 1960 onwards, such as the Cairo Salon, Spring Exhibition, and the General Exhibition. Internationally, his work was featured in events like the Youth Biennale in Athens (1967), the 10th Alexandria Biennale (1974), and the 1st Arab Biennale in Baghdad (1974). His contributions to the arts were recognized with several awards, including the Encouragement State Prize in Graphic Arts (1983) and the Medal of Arts and Science, First Class (1986). Ahmed's works are part of collections in institutions such as the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art in Cairo, the Institute of the Arab World in Paris, and the Arts Academy in Rome. He passed away in 2006.
