Enrico Brandani

Enrico Brandani (1914–1979) was an Italian painter, miniaturist, and engraver born in Alexandria, Egypt. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Cairo and furthered his education at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome, specializing in decoration and scenography. Brandani's work is characterized by a blend of religious symbolism and surrealist influences, often incorporating elements of fantasy and imagination.

After World War II, Brandani returned to Egypt, residing in Alexandria from 1945 to 1965. During this period, he engaged in various artistic endeavors, including painting, mosaic art, and theatrical decoration. His works are noted for their surreal and primitive atmosphere, with figures that combine realism with a delicate, refined line quality.

Brandani's art has been featured in several exhibitions, including a 1935 solo show in Cairo and a 1937 exhibition at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome. His pieces have also appeared in auctions, such as the 2022 sale of "Suzanne au bain" and "Young Schoolgirl."
