Enrico Baj

Enrico Baj (1924–2003) was an influential Italian artist known for his innovative approach to painting, collage, and mixed media. Born in Milan, Baj emerged as a leading figure in the postwar European avant-garde, co-founding the Nuclear Art movement in 1951 alongside Sergio Dangelo. His work is characterized by a playful yet critical engagement with political and social themes, often employing unconventional materials such as felt, buttons, and embroidery to create satirical portraits and fantastical compositions. Baj’s distinctive style blends elements of Surrealism, Dada, and Art Brut, resulting in works that are both visually striking and intellectually provocative.
