Anwar Al-Darwish is an Iraqi photographer renowned for his evocative documentation of Mosul's cultural and historical landscapes. His work captures the essence of the city's heritage, reflecting a deep connection to his homeland.
In late 2024, Al-Darwish held a professional photography exhibition titled "A Sharp Eye and a Radiant Mind" at the French Institute in Baghdad. The exhibition, inaugurated by the French Chargé d’Affaires, showcased his compelling visual narratives and was accompanied by a bilingual book detailing his photographs and biography. This event attracted a diverse audience, including artists, cultural enthusiasts, and international media, underscoring his significant contribution to Iraqi art and culture. Throughout his career, Al-Darwish has received numerous accolades, including the third prize in a poster competition in 2000 and multiple national awards in photography between 1992 and 2011. He was also honored with the Creativity Shield from the Mosul Studies Center in 2018 and the Yusuf Dhanoon Center for Historical and Artistic Studies in 2019. Beyond his photographic endeavors, Al-Darwish has contributed writings to local newspapers and magazines, conducted educational courses in photography, and served as a book cover designer at the Ibn al-Athir Printing and Publishing House affiliated with the University of Mosul.
