Anton lock

Anton Lock (1893–1979) was a British artist renowned for his paintings, illustrations, etchings, and wood engravings. Born Albert Henry Lock in Westminster, London, he studied under Walter Sickert at the Westminster School of Art from 1910 to 1912 and specialized in lithography under Walter Bayes at the Bolt Court School from 1912 to 1914. Lock's work predominantly featured pastoral themes, with a particular emphasis on horses, reflecting his deep appreciation for rural life.

Throughout his career, Lock exhibited extensively in the United Kingdom and France. He showcased his works at prestigious institutions such as the Royal Academy, the Royal Watercolour Society, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and the Paris Salon. In the 1930s, he held solo exhibitions at the Leger Galleries in London. His illustrations graced several books depicting outdoor and hunting scenes, and he contributed to nursery comics for the Amalgamated Press, including strips like "Peter and Doffy" and "Tony the Orphan Boy."

Lock's artworks are held in esteemed collections, including the British Museum and the British Council. A studio sale of his works was conducted at Christie's in 1979, underscoring his enduring legacy in the art world.
