Adel AlSiwi (عادل السيوي), born in 1952 in Beheira, Egypt, is a prominent contemporary Egyptian painter known for his evocative figurative works and distinctive use of color and texture. AlSiwi’s artistic practice spans painting, drawing, and mixed media, often exploring themes of identity, memory, and the human condition. His style is characterized by expressive brushwork, enigmatic figures, and a poetic sensibility that bridges the personal and the universal. AlSiwi graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University in 1976 but soon shifted his focus to art, later studying at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, Italy.
AlSiwi’s work has been exhibited extensively in major institutions and galleries, including solo exhibitions at the Cairo Opera House, the Egyptian Academy in Rome, and the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. His paintings have also been featured in group exhibitions at the Sharjah Art Museum and the Venice Biennale. On the secondary market, AlSiwi’s works have achieved notable results at leading auction houses such as Christie’s and Sotheby’s, with several paintings fetching significant prices and affirming his status within the Arab and international art markets. Adel AlSiwi continues to live and work in Cairo, contributing to the evolution of contemporary Egyptian art.
